Frequently asked questions
Everything about creating a poll, answering, picking the final date and what happens to your data.
Do I need an account or an app?
No. Neither the organizer nor the participants need an account, and Accordate works in any browser, on a phone or a computer. The organizer enters a name and an email address, which is used only to send the admin link and notifications. Participants just enter their name.
How do I create a date poll?
Give your event a title, add a description and location if you like, then enter your name and email address. Next, pick the possible days in the calendar: tap a date, or drag to select several. You then get a link to share with participants and a private admin link.
Can I offer specific times instead of whole days?
Yes. Each selected day can be a whole day or have one or more time slots. For example, the same Tuesday can offer both 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
What’s the difference between the participant link and the admin link?
The participant link is for answering: share it by email, text, Messenger, Teams or any other way. The admin link is private: it lets you edit the poll, remove a participant, choose the final date or delete the poll. Keep it to yourself.
Can I turn off the “Maybe” answer?
Yes. When you create the poll, you can turn off “Maybe.” Participants then have to answer Yes or No, which helps when you need a firm headcount, for example to reach quorum or to book a place that requires a deposit.
Can I hide the results from participants?
Yes. An option lets you hide the results from participants, so everyone answers without seeing what others said. The organizer still sees all the results through the admin link.
How do I change my answer after sending it?
Open the poll link again on the same device and in the same browser. A cookie remembers your row and lets you edit it.
A participant can’t edit their answer. What should we do?
Editing only works from the device and browser used to answer the first time. If the person switched devices or cleared their cookies, the organizer can remove their row with the admin link, and they can then answer again.
Can participants leave a message?
Yes. There’s a comment section under the answer grid. It’s handy for mentioning a constraint, such as “I can only get there after 7 p.m.,” or for organizing carpools.
How is the best date determined?
Each date gets 2 points for every Yes and 1 point for every Maybe. The date with the highest score is highlighted automatically; if there’s a tie, all the tied dates are highlighted. The organizer then sets the final date.
How do I set the final date?
Open your admin link and choose the date you’ve settled on. The poll then closes, and participants can add the event to their calendar in one click with an .ics file.
Will I be notified when someone answers?
Yes. The organizer gets an email each time a participant answers or leaves a comment. These notifications can be turned off, which is handy for a large group.
Does Accordate handle time zones?
No. Times are shown exactly as you entered them, with no conversion. If your participants are in different time zones, say so in the description, for example “All times are Eastern Time.”
What data do you keep?
Only what you type: title, description, location, dates, names, answers and comments, plus the organizer’s email address. That email address is never shown to participants. Accordate doesn’t use tracking analytics.
How long are polls kept?
A poll with no activity for 180 days is deleted automatically. The organizer can also delete it at any time with the admin link.
Is Accordate really free?
Yes. Creating a poll and answering one is free, with no limit on the number of polls. The service is funded by unobtrusive ads shown on the site.
Are the Pro and Team plans available?
Not yet. The Pricing page describes the planned plans and lets you join the waitlist. In the meantime, the free version includes every current feature.
I lost my admin link. How do I get it back?
Look for the email you received when you created the poll: it contains the admin link. Check your spam or junk folder too. You can also open the “My polls” page in the browser you used to create the poll.
Why doesn’t a poll show up in “My polls”?
That page is stored locally in your browser. It only lists polls created on that device and in that browser, and it’s cleared if you delete your browsing data. Your polls are still reachable through their links.
